We would like to invite colleagues to save the date for our Learning and Teaching Conference

We are delighted to announce the return of the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference 2026, now expanded across two exciting days to provide even more opportunities for colleagues to connect, collaborate and share practice.

This year’s conference theme, Teach Well for Connected Curriculum Success, reflects our continued commitment to advancing high-quality, inclusive and student-centred learning and teaching across our institution. Through a rich programme of presentations, discussions and shared experiences, the conference will celebrate innovative practice and support the ongoing development of pedagogical excellence within our academic community.

Day One: In-person Conference

In-person conference day, will be held on Thursday 25th June and offers a full programme of insightful and thought-provoking sessions designed to inspire reflection, encourage collaboration and showcase effective approaches to teaching and learning.

The programme will be structured around four key thematic strands central to Teach Well for Connected Curriculum Success:

  • Awarding Gaps
  • Assessment
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Innovation in Practice

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues from across the institution, exchange ideas and explore approaches that enhance student success and connected curriculum delivery.

We are also delighted to welcome Chris Powis from the University of Northampton as our external keynote speaker. Chris leads Library and Learning Services at Northampton, encompassing university-wide learning technology support and the delivery of academic, information and digital skills. His keynote address will explore key opportunities and challenges in these areas, with particular relevance to our own strategic priorities.

Day Two: Online Conference

Following an overwhelmingly positive response to this year’s conference call, with more than 50 submissions received for 24 presentation slots, we are excited to introduce an additional online conference day dedicated to Academic Innovation in Practice.

This new online event will showcase innovative approaches, creative practices and inspiring ideas emerging from across our academic community. The additional day provides even more opportunities to explore cutting-edge teaching practices, hear from colleagues leading innovation in higher education, and continue important conversations around the future of learning and teaching.

Hosted online on Monday 29 June, Teach Well: Academic Innovation in Practice offers a flexible and accessible way for colleagues to engage with a wide range of forward-thinking presentations and discussions.

We’re delighted to announce that our online day will feature a keynote session from Dr Michelle Morgan - Dean of Students, University of East London, an internationally recognised specialist in student experience and transitions in higher education. In her keynote, “The Importance of Adopting a Whole Institutional Integrated Approach to Improve the Experience, Progression, Retention and Success of our Students and Staff”, Dr Morgan will explore the growing challenges facing the higher education sector and discuss why a joined-up, institution-wide approach is critical to supporting student and staff success. Drawing on extensive research and practical experience, the session will provide valuable insights into improving progression, retention and the overall student experience across the sector.
