Annual Learning and Teaching Conference – 25th June 2026 & 29th June 2026
It may have been hot, but it was not enough to stifle conversation and the exchange of practice at the University Learning and Teaching Conference.
Chris Powis kicked the event off with an illuminating and informative keynote which reflected on Northampton’s journey on its new campus. Provocative at times, Chris addressed several established notions, looking at student and staff experiences.
Matthew Fleet provided a detailed overview of research undertaken by CADI to help us understand what is influencing staff engagement with CPD. Fortunately, Matthew failed to incapacitate colleagues with his paper aeroplane task, which 'landed' well with the audience. Colleagues are encouraged to contribute to this ongoing research.
Over the course of the day, the 24 presentations ranging from AI to Mentimeter, together with three workshops looking at creative oral assessments, re-imagining academic societies and achieving Track A hybrid with AI, gave plenty of choice for delegates.
With the exceptional number of submissions, the conference was extended to a second day, held online, showcasing further academic innovation from across the University. The event also provided a good opportunity to share best practice with external participants who were also invited to join us for the day.
Dr Michelle Morgan, a recognised student experience specialist, opened the day by emphasising the need for a whole-institution approach to improving staff and student experience, progression, retention, and success.
Overall, an excellent two-day event which served to showcase the diversity and depth of teaching practice across the University. Thank you to all colleagues for participating in the L&T Conference.
