Festival of Innovation

City of Portsmouth College - 12th Feb 2025

Chris Wood, Learning Designer recently facilitated a consultancy session at City of Portsmouth College’s "Festival of Innovation". The event, focused on fostering creativity and forward-thinking practices in education, provided the perfect platform for Chris to present and facilitate a workshop on authentic assessment. His talk, 'What does authentic assessment really mean, and are we actually doing it?', sparked lively and thought-provoking discussions, challenging assumptions and exploring core principles of authentic assessment. Drawing on exemplary practices from the University of Portsmouth, Chris engaged a packed audience—so much so that it was standing room only.

Following the presentation, Chris led a hands-on workshop where participants collaborated to design assessments that reflect real-world learning, utilising the enABLe toolkit. The session highlighted innovative approaches to personal pedagogy, placing students at the heart of the learning experience. The event was a resounding success, marked by vibrant collaboration, insightful conversations, and a shared commitment to educational innovation.

evasys Student Engagement Conference 2025

Professor Ale Armellini will be presenting at the forthcoming evasys Student Engagement Conference. The conference focuses on the need for adaptability and innovation in response to the changing dynamics of higher education (HE). The conference theme of ‘Future-proofing Student Engagement’ explores the insights and strategies needed to navigate this evolving landscape to create a more engaging, inclusive and future-proofed learning environment and to prepare today’s learners for the challenges of tomorrow.

INTED 2025 - Sharing the Passion for Learning

Valencia (Spain) - 3rd, 4th and 5th of March 2025

Dr Andy Clegg will be presenting at the forthcoming INTED 2025 - Sharing the Passion for Learning

Last year's INTED conference attracted over 700 education experts who shared their knowledge about the evolving landscape of education, technology and development. Year on year, INTED facilitates collaboration of educators from over 80 countries by offering networking activities and provides a platform for them to share their research through oral and poster sessions, interactive workshops and networking activities. Keynote speeches are delivered by some of the world’s leading education experts. INTED has a track record of being one of Europe’s largest education conferences.

Andy will be presenting two presentations: How Authentic is Authentic and Using GenAI Creatively in Learning, Teaching and Assessment. He has also been asked to run an enABLe workshop.

RIDE 2025: Empowering and Sustaining Change

University of London, 13th and 14th March 2025

Chris Wood, Learning Designer will be presenting at the forthcoming RIDE 2025: Empowering and Sustaining Change.

The conference will address empowering and sustaining change in higher education through three sub-themes:

  • Engagement, well-being and belonging
  • Inclusive and accessible education
  • Internationalisation and Transnational Education

Chris will be presenting his paper on: Inclusive Education through Alternative Summative Assessments: A Pilot Study.

RIDE 2025 - Empowering and Sustaining Change

WiseFlow - Visit to UniWise Head Office

Aarhus, Denmark, 16th-19th March 2025

Chris Wood, Learning Designer is set to meet with senior UniWise leaders at their head office in Aarhus, Denmark to discuss our innovative approaches to reflective portfolios and assessments in higher education. Building on the success of the University of Portsmouth’s pioneering work with WiseFlow, Chris will showcase the institution’s groundbreaking use of reflective portfolios, which have transformed assessment design and student engagement. The visit will focus on sharing best practices, exploring collaborative opportunities, and further developing the WiseFlow platform to enhance its capabilities.  This collaboration aims to strengthen the partnership between UniWise and the University of Portsmouth, ensuring that WiseFlow continues to meet the evolving needs of higher education and supports innovative, student-centered assessment practices.

AdvanceHE Annual Learning and Teaching Conference

Teaching and Learning Conference 2025: Future-focused education: Ensuring successful student outcomes for all. AdvanceHE's flagship three-day conference, attracting HE practitioners involved in teaching and learning from the UK and overseas, will provide a forum for delegates to share latest research, project outcomes and initiatives that improve teaching and learning practice.

Professor Ale Armellini and Dr Andy Clegg will be presenting at the forthcoming AdvanceHE Annual Learning and Teaching Conference. They will be running a workshop on: enABLing Bold Educators: Empowering Staff to Teach Well, Consistently Well and a presentation on: Fit for the Future: enABLing Team-Based Approaches to Learning Design.
