A passionate advocate for creativity and play in HE, Andy is also a certified trainer in LEGO® Serious Play® (LSP).

Andy helped design and now leads on enABLe (enable.port.ac.uk), the University of Portsmouth’s team-based approach to learning design that underpins its Blended and Connected model. He was instrumental in shaping the enABLe framework and designing the activities in its widely used toolkit. The framework has been recognised nationally by JISC and the Office for Students (OfS) as a sector-leading example of learning design practice. Andy is now spearheading the dissemination of enABLe across the UK and internationally.

In addition to his work on learning design, Andy plays a leading role in advancing professional recognition through the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023. Andy co-ordinates APEX (Academic Professional Excellence Framework) – the University’s experiential route to HEA Fellowship.  He is also a national TEAL (Teaching Excellence Award Lead) for AdvanceHE, promoting engagement with the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) and the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE).  He has a wide variety of sector-facing resources - often using gamification and digital technologies - to demystify the PSF23 and foster wide engagement across academic and professional services communities. Andy has a long-standing record of working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to support curriculum enhancement and staff development, with a particular focus on sustaining sector-wide impact.
