Chris Wood
Learning Designer
Chris joined Portsmouth University in August 2022 after teaching Music Technology and Media Studies at Portsmouth College for over 12 years. He led the College’s 1:1 “Creative and curious” iPad project, resulting in Portsmouth College becoming one of only two colleges in the UK to be recognised as an Apple Distinguished School. In 2019, he became an Apple Distinguished Educator – a recognition of how he continues to use Apple technology to transform teaching and learning, which has taken him all over the world. Chris is a published author and presents at conferences all over the world on teaching innovation.
Chris thrives on helping academics redesign and develop their courses, contributing to the development of assessment practices that empower students to succeed in their academic pursuits by offering differentiated paths to the same learning outcome. He is committed to enhancing students' learning experience through technology and pedagogical innovation.
When not working, Chris can be found playing guitar (which he has done for over 24 years now!); taking his whippet “Twiggy” for a walk; playing snooker or getting up at the crack of dawn to chase sunrises.
Chris joins us as a Learning Designer and brings a wealth of experience to this role including staff training, pedagogical innovation, project management, driving technology-enhanced learning and creative thinking.
