So You Want to be a National Teaching Fellow (NTF) - Crafting a Persuasive
Claim
Strand 1
Time: 3.55pm to 4.25pm
Theme: APEX
Location: Richmond LT1
Presenter: Dr Andy Clegg
Abstract:
This session offers an introduction to the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS). The NTFS recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession, and is the UK’s most prestigious award for teaching excellence in Higher Education. This session introduces the three NTF criterion (1) Individual excellence, (2) Raising the profile of excellence, and (3) Developing excellence and explores how each must be evidenced through application and consideration to Reach, Value and Impact. The NTFS is extremely competitive and nominees have to score highly and consistently across the claim. Therefore a compelling and persuasive narrative across the criteria is needed. The session will encourage you to think about how you make your claim distinctive, unique and exceptional, highlighting the kinds of qualitative and quantitative evidence needed to demonstrate sustained impact, and when drafting how to avoid common pitfalls. The session will also outline the revised internal selection process at Portsmouth, helping colleagues consider if now is the time to put themselves forward
