Innovation and Knowledge Mobilisation: Learning with Partners to Improve Immersive and Experiential Learning in Criminology and Criminal Justice Education
Strand 1
Time: 3.55pm to 4.25pm
Theme: AI
Location: Richmond LT1
Presenter: Paul Smith
Abstract:
The aim of the session is to outline how innovation and knowledge sharing with established partners has informed pedagogies in our criminology and criminal justice programmes. The aim is to give delegates examples of immersive and experiential learning techniques for all levels of education linked to employability and real-world practice. The presentation will cover the school level leadership strategy, designed to encourage mindset change, encouraging colleagues to embrace partnerships in all aspects of our business. We will provide examples of our experience of how (and how not) to integrate collaboration for mutual benefit of our students and other stakeholders. There will be examples of how theoretical perspectives are realised through immersive and experiential learning, creating a linked and congruent curriculum that unifies theory and practical learning to support a deeper level of understanding. We will factor in stress-based learning techniques, in a safe and enjoyable learning environment. Our two presentations are designed to give both a strategic and tactical overview of the techniques and provide insight into new and emerging techniques which we feel are extrapolatable to other areas of the University. We will give an overview of both the school’s successes and failures in this area, the ‘failures’ being where we learned the most about what works and what doesn’t work!
