Session 5 - Strand 3

Abstract:

Generative A.I. tools are increasingly embedded within research databases and other scholarly platforms. Often branded as ‘Research Assistants’, ‘AI summaries’ or ‘Smart Insights’, this session explores what is currently available through University of Portsmouth subscription resources. We will demonstrate what is on offer, where they can be accessed and how they work. We will demonstrate their key features, strengths and limitations. This session will also invite reflection on broader questions such as reliability and discussion around their implications for academic integrity, critical evaluation and student practice. We will encourage consideration of whether these tools should be embraced, used cautiously, or accompanied by specific guidance for staff and/or students.
