CADI CPD Review

CADI CPD Review

Time: 10:35am to 11:05am
Location: Richmond LT1
Presenter: Matthew Fleet

Abstract:

The presentation will focus on the findings from a recent CPD and staff development review undertaken through CADI at the University of Portsmouth. The discussion explores how academic staff engage with CPD within increasingly pressured Higher Education environments, alongside some of the tensions that exist between institutional priorities and the realities of academic practice. The presentation will particularly focus on themes including workload saturation and time poverty, perceptions of CPD as developmental versus compliance-driven, disciplinary identity and the need for more contextualised approaches to professional development, as well as the tensions between centralised provision and local ownership. It will also consider wider questions around academic culture, legitimacy, staff motivation, relationships and collaboration, alongside the role CPD plays within recognition, progression, and teaching-focused professional development in higher education. Alongside exploring the findings, the presentation will also discuss some of the practical recommendations and reflections emerging from the review, particularly around creating more meaningful, collaborative, and sustainable approaches to CPD within the university.
