Careers and Employability Video Series

Project by: Sarah Brook, Senior Communications Officer, Careers and Employability

Background

Sarah and her team set out to create a series of videos for the MyPort page and the MyCareer platform, designed to help students strengthen their employability skills. Covering everything from preparing for interviews, preparing for careers fair, CV and cover letter writing and acing applications. The series aims to support students as they prepare for life after graduation.

Alongside this, they were keen to refresh and elevate their existing content, turning to our professional media services to bring a more polished, engaging feel to the updated recordings.

This project came about after hearing from recent graduates who couldn’t attend Careers and Employability workshops due to work commitments. Many said they’d find recordings really useful for catching up on what they missed.

To address this, the team saw an opportunity to create a series of on-demand resources, giving graduates flexible access to key workshop content so they could still benefit from the available support.

Objectives

The primary aim was to make workshop content accessible to graduates in a format that better suited their schedules. Rather than recording full-length sessions, the team chose to:

  • Create shorter, focused videos that summarise key insights
  • Provide flexible, on-demand access to essential content
  • Support graduates in engaging with material in a time-efficient way

This approach was designed to improve accessibility while maintaining the quality and clarity of the information shared.

Outcomes

The video series has received over 700 views via the MyCareer platform, demonstrating strong engagement. Please note: the videos are hosted on our MyCareer platform, which requires students/grads to sign in before viewing them.

The videos have also been effectively integrated into monthly newsletters, extending their reach and supporting ongoing communication with graduates.

Building on this success, the team plans to embed the videos within webpages for current students, providing additional context and support ahead of graduation, particularly for content that can be challenging to navigate.

What we did

The CADI team collaborated closely with Sarah and the Careers Advisers on this project to produce a 12-part video series, combining a piece-to-camera approach with carefully selected b-roll footage to enhance storytelling.

From the outset, the process was designed to be both streamlined and supportive, guiding contributors through each stage from initial planning to filming and post-production. Iterative rounds of feedback and editing enabled the team to continuously refine the content, resulting in a final series that is clear, engaging, and aligns with its intended goals.

Experience of working with CADI

It was all incredibly smooth, and we had everything we needed in about a month. The process was very straightforward. We discussed the options available and landed on a format that worked really well for us.”
