We would like to share important updates regarding the future of Wiseflow and our strategic direction for digital assessment.

Moving beyond Wiseflow

Following a central review, we are planning to sunset Wiseflow in summer 2026 and transition our license to an “archive-only” model. While Wiseflow has supported a range of assessment activities, it has not fully met the expectations we originally set. We believe this change will enable us to deliver a more effective, flexible and sustainable assessment experience for our community.

Key dates and actions

To support a smooth transition, please note the following:

  • All student submissions in Wiseflow must stop before 1 August 2026.

  • Any new assessments with marking dates beyond this point should be set up using Moodle-based tools (e.g. Moodle Assignment, Turnitin, Moodle Quiz).

  • Wiseflow should not be used for the summer Ref/Def period, to avoid any disruption to access for students and staff.

Enhanced assessment solutions in Moodle

Throughout 2025/26, the CADI team has been developing and refining a range of improved assessment solutions within Moodle. This work has been supported by our move to the cloud with Catalyst, significantly improving system stability, scalability, and enabling rapid development, including AI-assisted enhancements.

New and upcoming solutions include:

  • Reflective portfolios
An improved solution using Moodle Assignment and Adobe PDF reflective templates (available now).

  • Double-blind marking
A custom-developed Moodle Assignment workflow (available summer 2026).

  • Large file submissions
A solution integrating Moodle Assignment with OneDrive (available summer 2026).

In addition, all Wiseflow online exams in TECH have now been successfully migrated to Moodle Quiz in the cloud.

From 31 August 2026: archive-only access

From 31 August 2026, Wiseflow will move to an archive-only license in line with the University of Portsmouth Retention Policy. A minimal license will be maintained with Uniwise to ensure assessment data remains accessible for audit and student support purposes.

What this means:

  • Students will have access to a self-service page to download their past submissions, grades, and feedback.

  • Staff can request downloads of student submissions (by cohort for 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26) via Hornbill. CADI Digital will retain administrative access to support these requests, including for audit or PSRB requirements.
