Dr Michael Begun
Academic Support Adviser
Dr Michael Begun is an Academic Support Advisor with extensive experience in higher education teaching, learning development, and academic support in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Holding a PhD in Philosophy and Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA), Michael brings an interdisciplinary perspective to student success, academic development, and educational practice. He has particular expertise in critical thinking, academic writing, and supporting students to develop confidence within university learning environments.
Michael's interests lie at the intersection of learning development, cross-cultural education, and the philosophy of higher education. He is especially interested in how academic conventions, disciplinary practices, and institutional expectations shape students' experiences of learning. Through publications, conference presentations, and professional engagement, he contributes to ongoing conversations about internationalisation, academic identity, and inclusive approaches to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds. At Portsmouth, Michael works with students and colleagues to help create accessible, empowering, and intellectually engaging opportunities for academic development.
