Janet Hillier

Academic Support Adviser

Janet brings 25 years of industry experience along with 17 years of teaching in Further and Higher Education, including HND and adult education programmes. She joined the University of Portsmouth in 2022 to develop a programme to support the academic and pastoral journey of postgraduate international students before accepting a permanent role as an Academic Skills Tutor.

Janet holds an MA in Education Studies, which focussed on wider support for international students. She has a particular interest in inclusive education and enhancing the student experience for learners from non-traditional educational pathways. Her work centres on creating welcoming and engaging learning environments that support student transition, foster a sense of belonging, and promote success for our diverse student community.
