Based on feedback from academic teams and in consultation with senior Service Centre colleagues we have made improvements to the Master Module Spreadsheets for each faculty. Module coordinators must add information about their assessments by January 17th to ensure summative assessments are created in a timely manner for teaching block 2.
The Master Module Spreadsheet (MMS) must be completed to provide Academic Services and CADI with the necessary details of assessments being delivered throughout the academic year. We rely on these details being complete and accurate to enable critical support activities to be carried out. This includes processes such as Wiseflow/Moodle assignment and Dropbox creation, identification of In Class Tests and Exams, Extenuating Circumstances processes and effective resource planning.
To assist in creating TB2 assessments, Moodle assignments will be re-enabled for academic colleagues alongside Wiseflow and Turnitin assignments. In most instances your assessment cannot be created until this information is added to the MMS.
Can I set up my own summative assessments?
CADI staff will still create summative assessments for academics including Moodle assignments. From the start of Teaching Block 2, Academics can create their own Moodle assignments.
Academics should specify in column V of the MMS whether they will create the assessments themselves. Assignment dropboxes created by academics should be hidden after creation so CADI staff can check the set up is in line with the University Assessment Regulation before it is launched to students. Academics who are confident to set up their own Moodle assessments are encouraged to do so, it is essential that the MMS is still completed for these assessments.
Please follow this user guide to ensure these assessments are set up in line with the University Assessment Regulations.
Guidance for creating Moodle assignments (with automatic extensions).
Guidance documents are also available from within the MMS and from the top of assessment setup pages.
What essential information do the CADI team need before the assessment can be created?
Essential information (your assessment cannot be created until this information is added to the MMS).
- Due date (column Q). - dd/mm/yyyy please ensure this is entered accurately. Missing or inaccurate information may result in your assessment being missed.
- What is being submitted? (column S) - the artefact you want your students to submit. Guidance is available here.
- Marker details (column Z) - email addresses of all markers involved.
Additional information:
- Group assessment (column AA) - optional, please indicate if this is a group assessment. This must be set up before the assessment is launched to students.
- Would you like to create this? (V) - indicate if you would like to create the assessment. (This is not currently possible for Wiseflow assessments.)
- Other Notes and Context (column Y) - optional information about your assessment.
- Rubric link (column AC) - only necessary if your assessment requires a rubric
- CMIS Week (column AH) - only required for exams to indicate roughly when you prefer the exam to be scheduled. See the University calendar for CMIS week numbers.
How will the creation process of assessments be sped up in TB2?
In time for the start of TB2 CADI will be deploying a bulk assessment creation tool for Wiseflow assessments which will help create assessments further before the assessment due date.
The re-introduction of Moodle assignments will enable academics to create their own assessments rather than waiting for these to be created by CADI staff, meaning assessments can be created more quickly. Please follow this user guide to ensure these assessments are set up in line with the new assessment regulations.
What should I do if the module or assessment information from SITS (columns A - O) need to be corrected?
Please add comments to the incorrect data in the purple or blue columns (module details, assessments details from SITS. Line strikethroughs should be used to indicate a module is no longer running. These will be removed by Academic Services staff.
What assessment types will be supported through Wiseflow in Teaching Block Two?
We are slowing down the rollout of Wiseflow by reintroducing Moodle assignments in Teaching Block Two. Wiseflow has significant beneficial functionality to support a number of assessment types. We will focus support within Wiseflow in teaching block to the following assessment types:
- Level 4 Assessments in HSS
- Double-blind marking of Final Year Assessments (40 credits and above).
- Large file submissions (over 250MB and up to 10GB)
- Video assessments
- Reflective portfolios
- Complex assessments
The development of a tool for bulk creating assessments will be delivered in early TB2. This will help accelerate the rollout of Wiseflow by allowing assessments to be generated well in advance of the associated due dates. To enable this bulk creation process, it is essential that accurate and timely information is entered into the faculty MMS sheets.
