Our new Moodle environment is ready and available to staff and students.
The CADI and IS teams recently completed a significant once in a decade activity to migrate our Moodle environment to a cloud environment supported by Catalyst IT Europe. This work was essential to provide much needed service resilience for the service moving forward.
The migration of modules to our new environment for TB1 and year-long modules is complete. Please contact cadi-digital@port.ac.uk if you do not have access to your module. You’ll find a clarification below about where your module is hosted.
2025/26 Modules – moodle.port.ac.uk
Our new cloud-based Moodle environment is now live at moodle.port.ac.uk. This environment holds new TB1 and year-long modules for 2025/26.
2024/25 Modules – moodlearchive.port.ac.uk
Trailing and third attempt assessments should be conducted on moodlearchive.port.ac.uk which holds previous 2024/25 modules.
We have a number of small issues which are being rectified after the migration.
Panopto access
A script was run on the 10th Sept to enable access for staff to their previous Panopto videos. Access to Panopto videos on Moodle should now be working for all users.
H5P Resources
As of 24th September all H5P resources within Moodle are now working as expected. The CADI team recently manually fixed around 900 H5P resources which couldn't be migrated automatically.
Please contact cadi-digital@port.ac.uk if you have any further questions about H5P or other Moodle related questions.
Assessment Information Resource (AIR)
Assessment information within the AIR resource needs to be updated each year in the event that assessment information has changed. The AIR resource provides a space for academics to provide important assessment summaries for students about their module assessments. This information is useful for students to know in advance of their assessment dropboxes being created.
The Master Module Spreadsheet which holds essential summative assessment information was launched to staff on 15th September and helps CADI and Academic Services staff support summative assessments.
Older question banks which couldn't be migrated automatically
Some Moodle question banks hold questions which are over 10 years old. These older questions prevent some module question banks from migrating automatically along with modules to the cloud. 60 modules across Moodle are affected and the CADI digital team are working through manually importing these questions banks. If question banks are needed urgently for diagnostic tests at the start of term, please contact CADI Digital to request support / expediate the manual import of questions so we can target support effectively. Very little house-keeping has been conducted on Moodle question banks over the past 12 years. We would advise staff to review their question banks in favour of newer questions where possible moving forward.
Provisional enrolments
As in previous years, provisionally enrolled students appear on course sites within Moodle and do not appear on modules until they have completed registration.
