Physically, the CADI team is based on the third floor of Mercantile House. However, some of the Digital Learning Developers will continue to work in the faculties for part of the week. Some of the team’s activities will take place in the new Design Studio, located in ULC 5.09.

CADI’s Operational Plan is currently being considered by UEB. A new CADI website is currently under construction. We are drafting service-level agreements that will be discussed with faculties in due course.

Urgent queries relating to University-supported systems should be addressed to the IS Service Desk on extension 7777.

Background and context

Following the RESET process, the newly formed Centre for Academic and Digital Innovation (CADI) has been working to ensure that the smooth transition to a centralised team. Part of the role of the “digital side” of CADI (see organisational structure below) is to preserve the integrity, stability, security and functionality of Moodle and integrated systems, but also to enhance support, innovation and collaboration with teaching staff and offer a high-quality learning experience for our students.

CADI’s team of Digital Learning Developers (DLDs), previously known as Online Course Developers or Learning Technologists, will support stakeholders (Lecturers, Administrators, students, external examiners) with queries related to Moodle and other supported digital learning tools

The rollout of Wiseflow is a crucial part of achieving the aims of the Digital Success Plan. The DLDs will play a key role in working with academics to create the containers for assessments. They will work collaboratively with the Learning Design team to ensure innovative learning and assessment design and redesign.

The DLDs will be led by two Senior Digital Learning Developers, Ian Vaughan and another soon to be appointed, who will assign support and workload based on their significant faculty-based experience and technical expertise. The aim is to provide a consistent high-quality experience for all colleagues, wherever they are based.

The team operates under Shaun Searle, in the role of Digital Team Leader, who will manage the team and communicate with Associate Heads and Associate Deans. Shaun, who reports to the Digital Success Plan Project Manager (Mike Wilson), will liaise with other teams in CADI, including the Digital Project Specialists and the Academic Innovation Team, to ensure appropriate escalation of issues when necessary (see Digital Team structure below).

The Digital Team will be using the Hornbill system for queries and tickets. It can be contacted via cadi-digital@port.ac.uk. We will be placing a BounceBack on all existing team email addresses (although those will still be monitored for a limited period) advising staff and students to use the new address. This will also enable us to assign and communicate cases efficiently with academic services and IS more efficiently. Urgent matters can be raised via the excellent IS Service Desk on extension 7777.

Important: while there is a close relationship between CADI-Digital and IS, there is a clear division of labour. CADI-Digital’s key areas of responsibility are listed at the top of this document. The IS Service Desk will continue to be responsible for a wide range of other issues, including (but not limited to):

  • Log-in issues (including Moodle and anything MFA related)
  • Technical issues with software (Microsoft, Google, Adobe)
  • Device issues (PC but also handheld device access)
  • Website or MyPort queries

As a newly formed CADI team, we look forward to our continued collaboration with you and the Portsmouth community.
