Sally Cheng

Learning Designer

Sally has been part of the University of Portsmouth since 2001, working for many years as an Online Course Developer and Digital Learning Developer before moving into her current role as a Learning Designer in the CADI team. Throughout this time, she has supported staff across a wide range of disciplines with designing accessible, engaging, and effective digital learning experiences.

Her practice is grounded in a strong belief in the power of play, creativity, and curiosity in higher education. She has a particular interest in play-based learning and gamification, and enjoys helping educators design activities that spark intrinsic motivation and support students to explore their disciplines in fun and engaging ways.

Sally is also passionate about building inclusive learning communities and fostering a sense of belonging. She brings this focus to her work by encouraging approaches that are student-centred, purposeful, and carefully designed.
