Beth Hallissey

Learning Designer

Beth works 3 days a week as a Learning designer in CADI and spends the other 2 days as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy. Beth has been teaching in Higher Education for over 10 years and has previously worked as a Technician. She specialises in Artificial Intelligence and has given talks on the subject across many faculties as well as to external companies. She has experience with 3D printing custom teaching resources as well as clinical and Haptic simulation. Her previous work designing teaching resources for Dentistry has been featured on the front cover of Dental Update journal and utilised in Dental schools worldwide. She has also helped deliver courses for the British Antarctic Survey to develop practical clinical skills.

Outside of work Beth is an avid gamer and is always on the lookout for how to “gamify” any teaching, from quizzes to escape rooms. She is a creative person who loves solving problems and finding new, inventive ways to help students and colleagues. She has used Moodle over the years and has a lot of experience in creating and managing content.

Alongside all of that, Beth is passionate about equality and diversity; she has previously been a staff network co-chair and guest speaker on the Springboard course. She was invited to an audience with the Mayor of Plymouth recognising the work she had done with equality and her role as a young leader.
