We are delighted to share that the University’s Alternative Summative Assessment Pilot is being extended for a second year. The pilot explores the extent to which offering students a choice of summative assessment instruments can enhance inclusivity, improve the student experience and support learning outcomes without compromising academic rigour or standards, or significantly adding to colleagues' workload.
In 2024–25, around 20 modules across all Faculties took part with very positive student feedback. For the coming year, we aim to expand the number and range of modules involved. We would especially like to include a greater variety of alternative assessment instruments.
Colleagues are reminded that this is a pilot exercise: modules must be formally signed up with CADI to participate. This ensures clear oversight, robust evaluation, compliance with PSRB and academic regulations, and support from CADI's Academic Innovation and Digital teams.
Workshops for Module Coordinators will begin in September, and participating staff will be supported in designing and communicating assessment choices.
To register your interest, please complete the MS Form and submit by Monday 29th September.
